App Annie, an app analytics firm, predicts that annual global application store revenue will exceed $102 billion in 2020. That $102 billion is the total consumer spend on mobile applications through the store in all app stores including Apple App Store, Google Play, third party Android stores, and others including Windows, Amazon, etc.

In the next 4 years the Asia Pacific region will see the strongest growth in terms of revenue growth, while EMEA and the United States will not be far behind. In economic times like the US, Japan and Western Europe for more than two - thirds of application store revenue, but by 2020 developing countries will reach 40 % of total expenditure.

One reason for the increase in the potential outside the US, EU and Japan is increasing affordability of smartphones are very capable. In 2020, the mainstay of today will move to mid-range ( or even lower ).
